What is that?
Many people grew up in the shadow of Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. To them, the landmark might seem like an ordinary sight. But someone seeing it for the first time doesn’t feel that way at all. It’s incredible! The Arch seems to say, “Gravity? Who cares!”
The arch curves 63 stories into the sky. It’s made from more than 43,000 tons of concrete and steel. If you travel to the top of the Arch, you can see up to 30 miles to the east and west. And that’s what the Arch is all about. It reminds us: The United States didn’t always stretch from coast to coast. Newcomers first settled in the East. Later, pioneers and explorers pushed westward. The Gateway Arch is “the gateway to the West.”
