A severe drought hit William Kamkwamba's tiny village in Malawi and destroyed an entire season of crops. William often went to the village library and read books on electronics. He found a book called Using Energy in 2001. He decided to build a wind mill out of scrap metal and old bicycle parts. The windmill provided electricity to his home and helped his family pump water to farm their land.
