Would you eat a monkey? Many people in Indonesia would. For the Bornean orangutan, that means big trouble.

Thousands of these orangutans are killed every year for their meat. More die because they have nowhere to live. This picture shows conservationists rescuing a baby orangutan in Indonesia. Before its rescue, the orangutan was trapped in a tiny piece of jungle. A forest fire drove it there. Other orangutan habitats have been turned into farmland. Because of these things, the species is endangered.

People are trying to save the orangutans’ homes. But that may not help in the end—unless people take orangutans off the dinner menu!
