On Sunday afternoon, President Joe Biden made a big announcement. He wrote that he would no longer seek reelection.

In recent weeks, his own political party has been concerned about him. Democrats weren’t sure that he could beat former President Donald Trump in November’s election. Many people think he is too old to do his job well. They wanted him to drop out of the race.

In the past few months, President Biden called some world leaders by the wrong names. He struggled to climb and descend the stairs of Air Force One.

Last month’s presidential debate was a disaster for President Biden. The President had many long pauses. Some of his answers didn’t make much sense. He told his supporters it was simply “a bad night.” But many watchers think his problems are due to old age. The President is 81 years old.

Nick Vallier is a Democrat. He welcomed the announcement. “The American people see he isn’t fit to do the job anymore,” he says.

President Biden says he plans to finish his term. He recommended a new Democratic candidate for president. He supports Vice President Kamala Harris.

The President plans to speak to the nation this week. He says he will give more details about his decision.

The Democratic Party will gather August 19-22. That meeting is called the Democratic National Convention. There, Democrats will choose their new candidate.

That candidate won’t have much time to campaign. There are just over 100 days until the election.

In the meantime, we don’t have to worry about our country. God is in control. Pray for our leaders. Ask God to help them make decisions that are wise and just.
