An old flag has a new home.

This American flag has only 45 stars. Each star is sewn on by hand.
Today’s flag has 50 stars. There is one star for every state.

The flag in the picture was found in an old van. The van was in a junkyard. The junkyard was in Iowa.

John Mommer was looking for car parts. He found the flag. He and his wife Mary decided to give the flag to Utah. That’s because Utah was the 45th state added to the United States of America. Mrs. Mommer took the flag to the Utah state capitol. The governor accepted it.

Utah became a state in 1896. The next state added was Oklahoma. That was in 1907. How old do you think this flag is?
