When you look at a parrot, are you looking at a dinosaur? Did the cardinal pecking at your bird feeder have a cousin called the Velociraptor? Some people would say yes. Many people believe that dinosaurs fly over our heads every day—as birds!
This year, the world received news from China. Scientists had discovered a winged dinosaur! Surely this means that birds come from dinosaurs! Right?
Scientists believe the bird-o-saur lived 125 million years ago. According to the Bible, God created the world and everything in it much more recently than that. So how could the newly discovered bird-dino—called the Zhenyuanlong suni—have lived before the world was created? That just doesn’t add up.
The theory of evolution says this: Over millions of years, one kind of animal can turn into another. Birds can come from dinosaurs. Humans and monkeys could have come from the same ancestor. But the theory of evolution is just that. It’s a theory. It matches the way many people see the world, especially if they do not believe that God created it.
God tells us He made the world in six days. He made each creature according to its kind. Later, He saved His creatures from a worldwide flood. Because sin damaged the world, many of His creatures have gone extinct since then. It seems that dinosaurs are included in that number.
When you’re dealing with dinos, you can go about it in two ways. You can choose to listen to people. People are trusting in the limited information they have collected about Earth’s history. Often, they interpret evidence in the way they want to see it. But you can also humbly listen to God. He never lies. He has all the facts. He holds the whole world together. He invented every dinosaur out of His great imagination!
With the humble is wisdom. — Proverbs 11:2
