People have been studying science for thousands of years. By now they know pretty much everything about the human body. Right?

Wrong! Just ask these neurologists. They come from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. They just discovered a brand-new body part!

Of course, the little vessels the scientists found aren’t really new. They have been sitting under human skulls for as long as humans have existed. The vessels belong to the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the part of the body that carries immune cells. If you could peek at the lymphatic system, it would look like a bunch of tubes. The tubes run all the way through the body. They drain out bacteria that could make you sick. Until now, scientists believed the lymphatic system didn’t protect the brain. As far as they knew, it didn’t even touch the brain.

The scientists found the new part inside the brain of a mouse. They feel sure that humans have the part too. What does that mean for the brain? Could keeping the immune system healthy fight against diseases like Alzheimer’s?

People with Alzheimer’s lose their memories. Big pieces of protein build up in their brains. Are the “new” immune vessels supposed to carry the protein chunks away? Maybe people get Alzheimer’s because their immune systems aren’t working right.

In Romans 11:33, Paul is overwhelmed by God’s wisdom. He says, “How unsearchable are His judgments!” God made our bodies more complex than we can understand. Just think of how long it took people to discover this old, old part of the brain!
