Can you think of a name that is unique? We don’t mean unusual. We mean different from every name in the world. For just $31,000, a baby can now get a name that no one else has had—in any country, in any language, ever.

Parents can use a Swiss company called Erfolgswelle (Ur-FOH-guhl-swell-ee). The company makes up new baby names. That’s quite a job! The names must have never been used in any country or language. The task takes 14 naming experts, four historians, and 12 translators! It takes them 100 hours of work per name. They choose names based on how they sound with the family’s last name. They check the meanings of the words the names come from. The names can’t be silly things like Zzzztxyyz or Foppleschnort-haggenpaggen. They have to sound like real first names. When the researchers have found 15 to 25 possible names, the parents choose the one they like.

What do the names sound like? We don’t know for sure. No families who have used Erfolgswelle have revealed their babies’ names yet. Imagine being the first person to have your name! Do you think it would be worth thousands of dollars?

While new names are coming in, old names are going out. You probably don’t have a unique first name. But do you have a last name that’s going extinct? According to myheritage.com, some last names have fewer than 20 bearers. Almost nobody still has the last name Sallow, Fernsby, Birdwhistle, or Berrycloth. You probably don’t know any Pussetts, Puscats, or Bytheseas, either. They went extinct in 2011!

Is your name new, old, or in between? No matter what your name is, you can make it a “good name” by obeying God’s commands!

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.”—Proverbs 22:1
