“Why didn’t I think of that?”
Have you ever had that thought when you see a really great product, or learn of a simple solution to a big problem? Surely you could have thought of the product or solution yourself!
How did someone beat you to it? Chances are, they pulled out an imaginary mixing bowl and followed this recipe for success.
1) Pour in a heaping cup of observation. In order to fill a need, you have to look for one.
2) Stir in a tablespoon of counting the cost. In Luke 14, Jesus asked, “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” Plan ahead. Make sure you know what you’re getting into.
3) Whisk together as much hard work as necessary. Success rarely happens without great effort.
4) Add16 ounces of reliance on your team. Notice where your own strengths and shortcomings are. Call on others when you need help. God made us to be in community. We accomplish more working together than apart.
5) Add two cups of honesty. Promote your idea with integrity. Deliver what you promise.
6) Mix in a quarter cup of learning from failure. Failure is often the best teacher. Learn from your mistakes. Then give it another go!
