The Demma sisters are on a mission. Giuliana is 13. Audrina is 11. But they’re not too young to make children’s hospital gowns more fun. The girls sew gowns with lighthearted designs. Flamingos? Paris landmarks? Disney characters? Yes, yes, and yes.
It all started when they visited their baby cousin Giada in the hospital. The tiny tot was fighting brain cancer. Giada had to wear a plain green hospital gown that was too big.
Giuliana thought, “Why does she have to wear this? Why can’t she wear something nicer?”
That’s when Giuliana and Audrina got to work. They transformed their basement into their very own sewing workshop.
Volunteers help cut fabric. Then the sisters sew the gowns.
A company cleans the finished gowns to make sure they’re as germ free as possible. Then the fun fashions are donated to hospitals.
So far, the sisters have made and sent more than 1,800 gowns to kids in 36 states! They’ve even donated gowns to Uganda.
“I wanted to do something to help kids like Giada and give them hospital gowns that have nice patterns, that are colorful, that they can feel comfortable in while they’re going through a rough time,” Giuliana says.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. Audrina wanted to do even more. She makes small pillows and provides markers so kids can color them.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. — 1 Peter 4:10
Why? Anyone—even kids—can see a need and use their God-given creativity to fill it.
