On Monday, 30 black-footed ferrets found a new home in Denver, Colorado. Look out, prairie dogs! A new predator is here—hopefully to stay.

Once, people thought the ferrets had gone extinct. Then a small colony of the animals was found in Wyoming in 1981. Since then, people have tried hard to keep the species alive.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released 30 ferrets into a 25-square-mile refuge. Officials hope the long, skinny ferrets will find plenty to eat there. Some farmers are thrilled. They say they need natural predators for the pesky prairie dog.
