LeBron James is a basketball legend. And now he’s a Ken doll too.

Toy company Mattel manufactures Barbie and Ken dolls. On Wednesday, the company introduced its new LeBron James Ken.

More new Kens will follow. The toy collection is called the “Kenbassador” series. (Last year, the company introduced nine female athlete Barbies. These included tennis star Venus Williams.)

Mr. James says role models showed him how to work hard as a kid. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to,” he says. He thinks the new Kenbassadors will inspire kids.

The LeBron doll comes with all Mr. James’s usual accessories. Sunglasses. Headphones. A blue-and-white letterman’s jacket with “LJ” on the left breast. His number 23 is on the right sleeve. Ohio and crown patches are on the left sleeve. His first name is on the back with “Just a kid from Akron” underneath. (Mr. James grew up in Akron, Ohio.) The doll wears blue Nike shoes.

The Ken doll will cost $75. It goes on sale Monday.

In 2023, Mr. James became the National Basketball Association’s all-time leading scorer. What does the record-setter make of the new doll?

He likes it. But he does joke about it a bit. “I mean, he might need to do a little lifting,” he says, studying the Ken. “Legs look a little skinny.”

Can you imagine a Barbie or Ken version of you? Why do you think people want to spend money on objects designed around other people’s identities?
