Do elephants make good watchdogs? Officials in India say “yes!”
The Riau province in India is covered in smoke—and it has been for almost three months! Forest fires fill the nearby areas with haze. That’s why 23 trained elephants have become “forest watchdogs.”
The elephants carry crews of people. Together, they check the land for fires. They carry water pumps. Elephants can’t do all the work, off course. What the people of India really need is rain.
