Over the weekend, the United States and Israel worked together to attack Iran. The attacks killed Iran’s ruler, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Dozens of other Iranian officials died too. The attacks acted like a spark. The conflict, like a fire, is growing. Around the world, some people protest. Others cheer.
Countries often work together during times of conflict. Allies of the United States have promised to help stop Iran’s missile and drone strikes.
Hezbollah is a political and military group in Lebanon. It is also known as a terror group. Hezbollah struck Israel. Israel fired back.
Four U.S. soldiers died. Iranian leaders say several hundred people have been killed in their country.
Iran will choose a new leader. U.S. President Donald Trump told Iranians to overthrow their government. So far, that does not seem to be happening.
The United States sent many U.S. soldiers to the Middle East before the fighting started. They closely followed Iran’s leaders. President Trump says the United States will continue to bomb the area all week.
Was it right for the United States to attack? Not everyone agrees. Iran was working on making dangerous weapons. Almost everyone agrees that needed to stop. But some still say the U.S. Congress should have approved the strikes first.
Meanwhile, people flee the fighting. Iran shoots missiles at places such as Israel and Dubai, the wealthy capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
Much of the world’s oil comes from the Middle East, where the fighting is happening. People around the world wonder if this will make it harder to get oil products such as fuel and gasoline.
What comes next?
People do not know. But God does. The world watches for more military strikes. Nations wait to see what new leader will rise to power in Iran. Everyone wonders: How will the people of Iran react?
Pray for the people of Iran, Israel, and other Middle Eastern nations. Pray for government leaders and soldiers on both sides. Pray for the true God to make Himself known. Pray for peace.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure. — Psalm 147:5
