It’s not every day you see a sheep at the Eiffel Tower. But this sheep isn’t a tourist. It’s a protestor.

French farmers brought about 250 sheep into Paris. The farmers were protesting laws that protect wolves. People in Europe once widely hunted wolves. Soon the wolves were all but extinct. But since wolves have been protected by law, their numbers have grown to about 300. That means one thing for sheep farmers: more and more wolves are attacking their flocks.

This year about 4,800 wolf attacks occurred. That’s 1,000 more than last year. The government pays for sheep killed in attacks. That cost more than $18 million in 2012.

Farmers want the freedom to protect their sheep. But for now, the sheep are hanging out at the Eiffel tower and munching hay. At least they got a vacation!

Did you know you can learn a lot about shepherding from the Bible? Do these phrases sound familiar? “The Lord is my shepherd.” “We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.” “The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” No governments and no wolves can stop God from protecting His children.
