Zookeepers in Japan wanted to prove something to their visitors. Elephants can swim!
This Asian elephant swims a 213-foot pool at Fuji Safari Park. The pool opened on July 11. Its length is the same as a river an elephant might have to cross in the wild. Visitors can watch the action through the pool’s glass sides.
The zoo elephants swim several laps every day. It makes great exercise. To breathe, they poke their trunks just out of the water. And once they’re done, they’re ready for lunch!
