Japan is having a new war—a burger war. And things are looking pretty black.

This year Japanese Burger King restaurants came out with something called the Kuro Pearl. It’s a black pepper beef patty with black cheese on a black bun. Wondering what makes it all black? You might wish you didn’t ask. The black cheese and buns are colored with bamboo charcoal. The sauce is made with squid ink.

But the new burger has a rival: the McDonald’s Japan Halloween burger. That burger is called the Ikasumi – or squid ink burger. It doesn’t have black cheese, but it comes with a squid ink bun.

In the mood for some black food? Hop on over to Japan any time before November. Make sure to tell us what it tastes like!
