Imagine the biggest gold nugget. What does it look like in your mind? Is it as big as a hill, or even a mountain?

Our imaginations can easily help us picture such things. But in the modern world, one of the biggest gold nuggets discovered is a lot smaller than you’d think. It weighs about six pounds. It fits in a man’s hand. But it’s still worth $350,000!

During the Gold Rush, people used to find gold chunks that were a lot bigger. Someone found a 54-pound chunk back then. But today there are fewer big chunks to be found. No one has found one as big as six pounds for decades.

A man unearthed the nugget in the California mountains. He used a metal detector. At first, he thought he had found a big piece of metal trash. Good thing he decided to dig it up anyway!
