Zakary Ingraham hadn’t seen his father in more than 15 years. And for the last several days, he thought he was dead. But as Zakary hung up the phone, he wanted to jump up and down and click his heels. His father, who had been lost at sea for two weeks, was alive!
Zakary’s father, Ron Ingraham, lives on a boat in Hawaii. One day he got caught in a storm. Huge 20-foot waves pummeled his boat, which was filling fast with water.
The Coast Guard searched for Mr. Ingraham for several days. While they searched, the fisherman did everything he could to stay alive. He ate mahi-mahi and tuna from the ocean. But he had nothing to drink. He had to live off the moisture in the fish.
Soon the Coast Guard gave up. Mr. Ingraham thought he would die. Then he got an idea. His radio had lost its antenna in the storm. He stuck a wire clothes hanger in his radio instead. He called into the radio, “Mayday! Mayday!"
The Coast Guard picked up his message and a nearby Navy ship brought him to land.
Meanwhile, Ron Ingraham can hardly keep from crying. "I got a hold of my son," he said, “That's a beautiful, beautiful part to this whole thing.”
“For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”—Luke 15:24
