On Sunday, June 7, men dressed from head to toe in moss paraded through the streets of Bejar, Spain. Spanish men have done this every year for centuries. As the men pass by, locals throw flower petals at their feet. Make way for the Moss Men—or, in Spanish, the Hombres de Musgo!
According to legend, men dressed in moss helped free their city from Muslim rule. That was 800 years ago. The men sneaked
into the Muslim fortress when the drawbridge was lowered. They ambushed the Muslim guards. Some believe the guards thought the moss men were monsters and ran away!
History—even very old history—is part of God’s big story. Can you think of a time in history God used to make you free, or to protect you from harm?
