Have you ever wanted to climb Mount Everest? Because the monsoons haven’t come yet, this time of year is the perfect time to try. At least, it usually is.

But this year a horrible earthquake hit Nepal, where Mount Everest stands. It caused a huge avalanche. It isn’t safe to climb Everest this year. Most climbers canceled their trips.

That’s bad news for Sherpas, the locals who get paid to guide climbers through the mountains. Without climbers, how will they make money? How will they rebuild the homes the quake destroyed?

Sherpas are in trouble. But so are others in Nepal. Some Sherpa staff have extra food that they would have sold to climbers. Instead of keeping it, they are carrying it down the mountain. They will give it to Nepalese people who need it. Others are giving earthquake victims money and supplies.
