Which city in the world is known as the City of Love? That’s right—Paris, France!

Couples from all over the world travel to Paris. In the last 10 years, many of them hung padlocks on a famous bridge called Pont des Arts (pronounced PON-day-ZAR). The locks were symbols of their love. The couples wanted their locks to be permanent. But on Monday June1, Paris officials started taking the locks down. They plan to remove 45 tons of padlocks in all!

“That’s unfair!” say lovers. But the locks are too heavy for the material they hang on. Their weight weakened the railings.

Officials are brainstorming. What are some new ways visitors could show their love?
