This pink flamingo lives in the Sorocaba zoo in Brazil. A month ago, he broke his left leg. Veterinarians faced a hard question. The bird’s leg would have to be cut off. But with just one leg, he would die. What could they do?

The vets gave the flamingo a brand-new leg. The new leg is 7 inches long and made of carbon. As far as the zookeepers know, this is the first time a flamingo has ever worn a prosthetic leg.

It took just a few days for the bird to get used to the new part. He has even learned to tuck it under its body like a normal flamingo leg!
