Astronaut Scott Kelly was flying somewhere above Russia on Monday, June 22. He snapped this photo. It gives us a firsthand look at the Aurora Borealis from space.
The Aurora Borealis has another name: the Northern Lights. What causes these bright lights? Gasses from Earth’s atmosphere bump into charged particles from the sun. The lights change colors based on which kinds of gasses collide.
Astronaut Kelly lives on the International Space Station right now. He tweeted this photo from space. People all over North America and northern Europe saw the blazing sky too. Astronaut Kelly wasn’t the only one snapping great photos!
