This year, Sandy the yellow Labrador had a Christmas surprise. But it wasn’t a good one.On Christmas Day, Sandy’s owner was walking her in Oregon’s Columbia Gorge. Something spooked Sandy. She snapped her leash and ran—all the way over the edge of a cliff!Sandy fell 150 feet. Her owner thought she was a goner. He hiked to the bottom of the cliff and looked up. There Sandy was, stranded on a ledge! It took nine people to rescue the dog. A climber named John Thoeni rappelled down the dark cliff. He strapped a harness onto Sandy, and a team of eight people hoisted them both to safety. Sandy was frightened, but she wasn’t badly hurt. She walked back to the beginning of the trail without help.As people who live in God’s world, we have the chance to take care of the animals He created. Have you ever seen an animal rescue?“Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast.” —Proverbs 12:10
