Do you ever feel like your dryer eats socks? It seems like a good explanation for how many socks end up without a mate!

When Maggie Daiber was five, she noticed she had a lot of lonely socks. They had no mates, and would only keep one foot warm. What good were they now?

A lot of good, it turns out! Maggie and her mom started a program called Maggie’s Matches. Every year, they collect single socks from other families. Maggie and her brother set up sock donation boxes at their schools. Some friends drop socks off or mail them in.

Then the matching begins. Some socks never find perfect matches—but they’re paired with socks that are as close as possible. Then Maggie and her family give the socks to needy and homeless people in their community.

In Deuteronomy 15:11, God tells us to help the poor. He says, “You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor in your land.” Now Maggie is 10. She receives more socks every year. Last year she made 700 pairs. You are never too young to do what God says!
