Who wants to borrow a book from an ordinary library when you could borrow one from an R2D2 library?

Sixth graders in Odessa, Texas built this Little Free Library themselves. It looks like R2D2, a character from Star Wars. People have built at least 25,000 Little Free Libraries around the world. Here’s how it works. When you see a Little Free Library by the side of the road, you can take a book out of it. That book is yours to keep. But you have to leave another book behind to replace it.

The kids in Odessa built their library to celebrate Star Wars. They even picked the perfect date: May fourth. On May fourth, Star Wars fans go around saying “May the fourth be with you.” Get it? It’s a joke about a line from the movies: “May the force be with you.”

Building the six-foot library was a lesson in math. It also taught the kids how to use new tools.
