In 2007, Tama the cat started hanging out at a train station in western Japan. Passengers loved visiting her there. Soon tourists came to the station just to see her! That brought money to the local economy.

On July 16, Tama the cat died. She was old. At her funeral, people said she had become a goddess. Many people in Japan practice a religion called Shintoism. Shintoism has many gods. Some of them are animals. Tama was a great help. But worshipping her as a goddess is idolatry! A kitty-cat, no matter how cute, just doesn't compare to the one, true God.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. — 1 John 5:21
