The marriage proposal of a Netherlands man turned out to be a smashing success—emphasis on the smash.
The man rented a crane in the town of Ijsselstein. He wanted to descend in front of his girlfriend's bedroom window on a Saturday morning, play her a song, and then pop the question. But he might have done better with flowers and a candlelit dinner. Just as he was lowered, the crane toppled over. It smashed a large hole in the neighbors’ roof.
Thankfully, the man was safe. No one in the house was injured, either. But just as they tried to remove the crane, it fell a second time! This time the whole roof was smashed. People from six apartments had to leave their homes.
What would you think if you were the lady he proposed to? They say if you break a mirror you get seven years of bad luck. What does a smashed-in roof say about a future marriage?
We don’t have to give in to those kinds of superstitions. The would-be bride didn’t. She said yes!
